Are you looking for great US history memes for kids? 

I want to help your students fall in love with history. I believe that U.S. history is anything but boring (but maybe the way we teach it is). There are so many ways to engage students in history, from videos and picture books to primary sources and simulations. 

But one simple way to catch your students’ attention is by using memes. 

What are memes?

Memes are interesting or funny items (like captioned pictures or videos) that are spread widely online. 

How can you use memes in the classroom?

• Need a bell-ringer? Start class with a meme! You could have students respond to the meme in writing (ex: What is the main idea? How would you explain this meme to someone who doesn’t get it?). 
• Use memes as discussion starters. Put a meme on the board and use it as an attention-getter for a conversation.
• Use memes at the end of units. I like memes because often students only “get the joke” if they have some background knowledge about the historical topic. 
• Ask students to create their own memes about a historical topic. This will be easier if you’ve looked at memes in class.
